I think you have the right idea about CMGI. I think it's always better to buy the stock when it is weak, a practice I never do with most stocks. But after that I would buy the stock and watch it and see how you do over time (meaning more than 6 months). At that point if it has made a good move what I would do is divide out the total amount paid by the price it is at and find out how many shares you would need to sell in order to then have free shares. If it doubles from when you bought you would sell half. What I did with CMGI was sell half my cost in one cycle and the other half in another cycle. The point is that after that is done it makes long term holding much easier. You figure you can't lose so you stick with it. It also makes investing much more calm vs. trying to sell high, buy when low, try to sell again high, etc. I think that's hard to do correctly for most people. Some day you get caught and burned and you realize it doesn't work well.
