Hmm. So the Bloomberg articles had no effect on the stock price?

Jeff,

Here is the first mention of "clute" that I can find on SI. Note the date (June 6, 1999) and who posted it (Spider Valdez).

exchange2000.com

Here is the first post on SI, which happens to refer to a post from Raging Bull dated June 25, 1999 that links Janice Shell with the town of Clute, TX in a letter dated June 12, 1999. While the letter itself is dated two days prior to the HITT filing, the posting of the letter didn't occur until 11 days after the HITT lawsuit was filed (unless there is another as yet identified reference on one of the Raging Bull threads).

From the HITT filing, note that it is dated June 14, 1999, or a full 8 days subsequent to the initial mention of "clute", and 11 days prior to the public linking of Janice Shell with Clute, TX. The filing also includes the Clute, TX reference.

Note the next mention on SI of "clute" is dated June 14, 1999 and is posted by Rico Staris.

Note that the Staris reply is to a post by DSPetry, which is a HITT PR announcing their legal actions, also dated June 14th. This means that the PR and the HITT legal filing occurred on the same day. The HITT PR contains the following quote:

The Company would also like to gratefully acknowledge the substantial assistance it has received from various persons throughout the country in investigating the Internet activity by the Defendants and others, and welcomes further contact from individuals with knowledge of this cybersmear campaign.

exchange2000.com

Note that this PR never mentions "clute". Further note that other people posted on the HITT thread that they tried to access a copy of the legal filing by HITT's lawyers and were rebuffed by the court or its' representatives. Therefore, it would appear that it was impossible to get an early copy of the HITT filing.

Hmmm... I wonder where HITT got the relevent information on Clute, TX. Or vice-versa maybe?
