[Crying wolf too often is not a good idea-MSFT should adopt a more credible approach to guidance.]

Yeah, I think they overdid the talk-down this time, too, and agree that if they get too far from center this practice could easily be viewed as deceptive rather than conservative. Their own numbers show Office2000 30% ahead of Office97 at the same stage. The NT product line is growing faster than forecast. Windows2000 is looming on the horizon having already been through a gigantic Beta program. SQL is gaining ground. And no $99 products in the bunch, i.e. these are all big ticket items relative to MSFTs past product lines.

As a personal datapoint, I've been running Office2000 for about a week, finding it very sharp and polished. While not a big fan of the Mr. Paperclip helper, I gave him a shot at telling me about the web file format. The help automatically (temporarily) tiled itself into the display taking about 1/3 the screen area, almost exactly what I would have chosen myself. It had a very clear topic on the minor rendering differences between native Word and web format, complete with a little illustration of each one. I'm impressed. I think Office2000 is going to be a blockbuster.

I think they realized this time they overdid it. I notice that some of the MM's are buying up the stock today...
