Dear Gregor:

While I certainly think damnation can be predicated on the things we do (murder without repentance, for example), I agree with you that there is great theological support for the idea that there is a measure of punishment for those who fail to do things. After all, to fail to accept Christ is the biggest sin and, since Christ is the only route to salvation, a failure to accept him will lead to damnation. Also, look at the next parable in the book of Matthew immediately following the parable of the ten talents. Matthew 25:31-46 is the parable of the Sheep and the Goats. Those on Christ's left, the Goats, were cursed because of what they failed to do - they failed to provide for the poor and failed to visit those in prison.

Lord, please continue to remind us of those things we should be doing for you, amen.

In Christ, Tom
