Well everyone that I know who uses Linux does not regard Redhat's IPO as evil or sinister. But I suspect that some number of users of Linux and even Redhat Linux believe in their heart of hearts that they have been abducted by aliens for sexual experiments. So no doubt you can always find someone somewhere who believes the that redhat Linux is a communist plot or anything else you can think of. Today there are so many people making a living by reporting the news. Maybe the problem is that there is just not enough news so one contrives a theme and a plot and then fills in the alien abductee quotes to make a news story.

Of course my main theory on stupid theories is that the vast majority of people have amazing ability to contort their bodies so that they can actually stick their head up theit butts 23 hours a day and the noxious fumes that they breath greatly reduces their ability to think clearly. Of course I have not found any alien abductees to admit to this and thus it's most likely true.

Tom Watson tosiwmee.

So the Linux community would rather have private investors making all of the money and be locked out of the game altogether?

There seems to be a lot of economic ignorance going around among Linux aficionados. Check out slashdot.org for a sampling.

It's entirely possible that misunderstanding will hurt Red Hat's relationship with the community. For example, there's a lot of resentment associated with the IPO letter.
