"the total of insider and institutional shares is now 96.4% -- "

This is VERY hard to believe. I wonder if "institutional" does not, in error, include shares such as mine, which I have no certificates for, but are held by my brokerage?

Rll, thanks for the block trade chart. When I sorted the trades by day and size, some obvious day-trader activity showed up. But if institutions were involved, you would expect to see more large, round-numbered blocks like 10K, 50K or 100K shares. Of course it isn't very hard to program a computer to sell a large block of shares as a series of odd-ball values that add up to the desired total. It's one possible explanation but I'd sure like to hear more opinions on this one.

To all who are long on SNDK,

Congratulations for picking a winner.

Looked carefully at the compact flash market carefully. I think your sentiments are justified. For the immediate future, in terms of battery usage and portability, there is no competition for this media right now.

The list of devices that will use this is growing at an impressive rate.
1. Digital Cameras
2. Windows CE handheld PCs
3. MP3 players

Each of the above market is growing at incredible levels, and there will be new devices entering.

What made me pull the trigger?

A. I was curious about potential competitors so I did a simple survey : I walked in 3 computer/electronics stores, asked for a compact flash memory. They all showed me Sandisk CFs. I asked if they have other models. Two said they didn't think anyone else was making them. The last one said : sandisk CFs have good compatibility with all products. They used to carry something else too, but they don't always work with some digital cameras.

Their competition is in rough shape.

B. Their license and royalty income is steady and incredible. I checked for any possible patents that they might have here. And I found these :

I think this is the key one that is bringing them truckloads of royalties for now. This is basically the entry barrier to this market that will make it difficult for anyone else to get in.
patents.ibm.com

Also the following are otherlight readings.
patents.ibm.com
patents.ibm.com
patents.ibm.com
patents.ibm.com
patents.ibm.com

Very impressive. These patents let them have a finger in every pie of CF and CF-like storage form-factor.

What would make me nervous?

A. SNDK financials show that revenue is still very small to justify such a high market cap. But I believe this market will grow. Going from 1M/Q to 1M a month is not out of the question in the near future if one looks carefully at all devices that need this thing.
B. Their manufacturing
C. Their webpage at www.sandisk.com is really cheesy. Look at www.atitech.ca for a flashy corporate presence. Hire their web designers.
D. Because of the recent sharp runup, a pullback is possible. But I'll probably accummulate more, and my horizon is two yrs.

A rising tide raises all boats. I'm only sorry I didn't look hard enough the last time and missed the runup.
