TT:
I have to disagree.. Having come from the same working class background as you. not too many years ago I was on the street (no not wall street) the streets of America. The only thing that held me back was my own fear. Not the wealthly or Greenspans of our world. Only me.
Everyone can make it here. But We have to make the choice for our selves and our families.

OTOT
<<<I believe he is following an agenda put in place by the wealthiest of this land to protect them from financial ineptness caused by commonplace wealth.>>>
IMO it is the establishment, the system, the banking industry
and thus of course the wealthy and all the industries that produce the wealth in America that is being protected here. The old guard is trying to hang in there and establish some continuity, while the technological revolution is shaking things up with computers, web sales, and battles between cable and phone companies.
Despite the billions of $ being spent on technology, it is still very small potatoes compared to the huge bond issues underlying
almost every utility company, not to mention the home mortgages,
bought by banks, bundled, re-sold as packages, and then sold back to the public. (That one scares me).
The Federal government is or should be supporting
industry where wages are taxed to support promises made by politicians in regard to SS and Medical programs.
The agenda seems to be working although Ross Perot would argue
differently. However if the government had to stop printing money
to pay for the Balance of payment problems and the national debt
things would come to a screeching halt. That may happen later after the present crop of politicians is out of office and safely retired.
Meanwhile I believe Mr Greenspan is doing his very best to educate congress and keep things running smoothly by minimizing
financial situations that have a potential to destabilize the system
So we know he is not in favor of a rocketing tech stock market.

Re:.Working for wages set to keep us in check. The Market sets your wages - nothing else. If you don't believe it, search the net for your job description in other parts of the country and adjust for cost of living at that site and see if it's not close to the same.

Re:.I believe he is following an agenda put in place by the wealthiest of this land to protect them from financial ineptness caused by commonplace wealth.

This statement shows that you have no idea what the charter of the Fed is. You should read the info at the site below and remember that the Fed is executing policy as set forth by the legislative branch of our government. It's kind of ironic that the Fed policy making committee should be concerned with stiring up trouble just to keep the masses in check! LOL!

Re:.Just think what life would be like if we were all wealthy enough to leave our jobs, support our families and do as we please without the worry of financial support.

How would you live if you didn't support yourself? Are you talking about government entitlements here? Just how do you think you could eat? Maybe you would like to try living in Russia or Brazil or some other places where they really can't manage inflation and price stability and see how you could get along.

Re:.which incidentally productivity and world competition
has keep in check while Mr. Greenspan gets the credit.

This statement is nonsense. Greenspan has never taken credit for the productivity improvements and, in fact, has gone out of his way to state that technology has advanced productivity gains greatly. If you had read any of his speeches you would also notice that he harps continuously on education and re-training so everyone can benefit from the higher paying high tech jobs which are so short of qualified personnel now.

Re:."The rich get richer" I didn't make that one up I heard it all my life along with "the poor get poorer".

This is no mistake and is true. It's true because the rich work at it while some of the poor are waiting around for more entitlements. You are the only one that controls your gains and standard of living. And don't say it can't be done because I worked my way through college and graduated at the age of 36 with a BSME and then took more courses in metallurgy for fun and further profit. I came from the same background as you but decided it was going nowhere and changed course.

Re:.Finally the real atrocity IMO is each and every cure they have always leaves us (the masses) lacking. Not one is efficient

Too bad all the people who know how to run this country are busy running taxicabs or cutting hair.

Just think what life would be like if we were all wealthy enough to leave our jobs, support our families and do as we please without the worry of financial support.

Quick question ...

If everyone left their jobs, who'd supply the goods and services required to survive? I wouldn't want to think what my life would be like if the people who supply water, electricity, food, and fuel, to name a few examples, no longer supplied these goods.

Cheers, PW.

P.S. Now if you said everyone who owns DELL, that would be a different matter.
