Edison also spent a lot of effort and money to get William Wemmler executed in the electric chair to show that AC was deadly. The chair did work after a fashion. They were low on amps and instead of killing him with a massive shock the poor guy was cooked to death.

True, but Edison then adapted AC to all his Edison power plants and the rest, as they say, is history...
