Edison spent a great deal of time, not inventing like Tesla, but plagiarizing the ideas of others, much like Bill Gates does today. Just like most people think that the Windows graphical interface was Gates' invention (it was first Xerox's idea, then Apple's and Atari's, then Microsoft's), a lot of people wrongly think that the electrification of the country was due to Edison. He didn't mind having his political cronies literally cook a guy in the chair to try to show the danger of Tesla's A.C. Given enough voltage, D.C. would have cooked him too.
