<<Still I asked him how many rich people there are in China. >>

This really depends on what is your definition of "Rich"? And also it would help if you tell me what kind of households here in the US do you consider as "rich", specifically, in terms of household disposable income?

In terms of entrepreneurs, yes, a lot of Chinese like to have their own business, especially people from south part of China. Take a look at all the business in Southeast Asia, you have an idea. Even if here in Silicon Valley, you can see a quite a number of recent Chinese immigrants set up their own business. Here is a report on that.
ppic.org

As for the number of Mobile phones in China, I think the latest available figure (in June) is 18 million cell phones (1998 alone, had 6 millions or so new users), and majority of them in big cities. So maybe the future hottest spot will be in rural areas in China.

It's difficult to overstate the size of the mobile communications market. According to the web page below, cellular handsets were shipped in 1Q99 at an annualized rate of over 220M units!

cellular.co.za

We all know that G* serves a niche market and has a limited capacity, which, if filled, will generate a very attractive ROI.

Taking into account the large populations underserved by current and foreseen terrestrial cellular systems, I can't imagine G* won't be able to capture 0.5-1% of the sales volume above. And if it does so, shareholders will be very well rewarded, indeed.

BTW this web page is part of a very impressive S. African site with extensive coverage of African and international wireless developments.

Couple of questions that I have not answered? If you mean that how many rich people there are in China, I dunno. The right question should be, however, how many rich people in China do not have a phone.

Or, even better, how many rich people in China do not have a phone and are wanting to have one and do not mind few hours battery life and do not mind having a phone that does not ring inside and are accessible to some sort of marketing effort. Hmm.. there's a question even Mqurice doesn't have an answer.

>I don't think he like me very much becuase I seem to find myself
>diametrically opposed to most things he says.

What's this, I like you very much, limtex. In fact most of my postings I write only thinking of you (especially the one about the brown stuff). I know you will see the light at the end and will become one of my most ardent supporters.
