Tony,

Those aren't my estimates, so ask HWP. BTW, late in 1998
+ 3 years = late in 2001. Add 12-18 months for screwups
and you're pretty close to 5 years.

We've heard these dire predictions before about the latest
and greatest "risc-killer" technologies from Intel & HWP.
All well and good, but until there are verifiable results,
there's no reason to believe McKinley will be executed any
better than Merced.

In any case, any hardware needs good software running on
top for it to do anything meaningful. Look at Alpha, for
example. When the chips finally do come to market, SUNW
will already be there with the premiere O/S on the planet,
bar none.

P.S. I think CPQ is crazy not to license Solaris for its
Alphas. They're already drowning with Tandem & DEC hanging
around their necks like the proverbial albatross.

Merced won't even make it next year, and the numbers will look pathetic whenever it comes out( vs PowerPC). Originally INTC stated they could not take advantage of "Copper technology" until 2003. which does not jive with 2001 release of Mckinley..YOu will see news of Mckinely slipping well into 2003 probably next year...look back at merced and it's hype from '96.
