Scott, I agree with your projections. We have seen the high for Q3 and probably the year.

There was a nice symmetry to that decline. First-half August decline about the same length as late July decline would bring the S&P 500 to about 1280. The decline to the final low was the same length as the drop to mid-August and would bottom about 1140, on either the first or second intermediate-term bottom in September or October. That would place the market just at the top of the long base in early 1998. Then we have Y2K lawyers and Yuan devaluation to look forward to in late Fall or early next year.
