Your Doggedness,
it is always a joy to get a runaway dog back to house.
Were you able to sniff out anything new about FGI while roaming in the wilderness?

***OT***OT**** TO ALL: "NEW" SI vs. "CLASSIC" SI

Actually, this subject is really "on topic" for all SI subscribers.

I don't know how many of you tried out the SI Beta version, or how many of you have permanently switched to it now that it has officially become the "New SI." I also don't know how many of you are aware that the old format -- let us call it "Classic SI" -- is due to be axed shortly.

This has led to a grass-roots rebellion, the cause for which I tried to explain in the following post:

Message 10754633

Two days ago, one of our old-timers, LRR, launched a petition that asks only that Classic SI be preserved, alongside the New SI. (The petition thread has been No. #1 on the Hot Subjects list ever since -- although you would never know it from looking at the Top Ten "Hot Subjects" list on the log-in page of the New SI.)

Subject 29753

This post (in response to charges that the controversy is "unnecessary") lays out the current "state of play":

And here is a forum for discussing issues related to the petition:

Subject 29760

And last but not least, here is a poll, in which I would urge you all to vote. The Go2Net folks in charge of the changeover have maintained that 90% of the subscribers from whom they received feedback supported the Beta site. We question the validity of that statement.
