Oil does not have as big an an impact on inflation as it did 10 or 20 years ago, but still is quite significant.The recent rise reflects the combined impact of OPEC cuts and the perception that Asia is on the road to recovery.

And oil is not the only thing going up in price these days. Ditto for copper and aluminum. Ditto for home prices, drug prices, restaurant prices, rents, cable TV etc. Add today's ultra tight labor labor markets in many areas and inflation is headed considerably higher despite the restraining impact of the internet.
