PT - interesting statement about the research grants. I hadn't considered that concept before.

There will be too many places for people to buy medicinal items online for KOOP to derive any significant profit from this, IMO. For starters, how about CVS, RiteAid, Eckerd and Drugstore.com, not to mention most of the other "information providers" eventually.

What insurance companies want and need, most of all, is a way to cut their costs of providing medical care. What would they be willing to pay KOOP for? Most or all of the information KOOP provides is available at many competing sites in one form or another, accessible by search engines, and dozens of modalities of diagnostic tests will soon be available elsewhere over the Internet (watch the newswires!) and even some via telephone lines. THAT is how insurance companies will be able to reduce the number of doctor visits.

Acquisitions of actual revenue-producing complementary businesses is KOOP's only hope, long term. Just my opinion as always, but it seems clear that more and more people are sharing it these days <g>. -Eric
