For home use, I am currently using a cable modem. I must admit that I am very satisfied with the stability and the speed (at times). The advantage of DSL is that it can be utilized over normal telephone lines as long as the central station (or whatever it's called) is within three miles of the user. This appears to be a simpler arrangement as opposed to cable modems which require upgrading to fiber-optic lines.

What I am wondering about is that this debate of cable vs. DSL vs. normal telephone modem vs. etc., doesn't this all become a moot point with the eventual introduction of Internet II, which to my understanding is being utilized by several universities (don't ask me where, I just read about it). It is my understanding that Internet II is much faster to a higher magnitude making cable modem and DSL look pathetically slow. While I understand that Internet II service is currently being restricted to research and university use, it is inevitable that this will eventually spill out to the public sector.

Comments anyone?

Good luck to all,

David

Tec. I don't like to bet on where my stocks go. When I select my cos. I look at the possibilities of growth etc. and then HOPE that the stock price will move up. I guess you could call it betting. gg. I am hoping that AOL will be at an all time high by the end of the year which could then mean that my shares would double. Nice thought.

I am plodding along here with 56K and am waiting for DSL by the end of the summer. In the meantime I am hoping that AOL will keep on doing its thing which has been great up until now and I will be watching Mr. Case trying to achieve his goal of making this company No. 1.

I listened this afternoon to a telecom analyst from Dresdner Global R. Investments who said that he does not like AT&T at this time and would switch out of it. Biggest reason I came away with was all the money spent to collect all those cable cos. and it would take time to reap the benefits. Still lots of work with infrastructure and how everything will work in the end. Maybe AOL is smart to have waited on which way to go or more likely they already know which way to go.

I know the conversations on this thread. I am reading the posts.
