OTOT, RE: Roger and Game 6, 1986 That old wound was reopened a couple of months ago up here in New England. Peter Gammons wrote in one of Globe columns that he spoke with the old pitching coach (whose name escapes me right now) of the Red Sox; this coach maintained that Clemens definitely asked out of the game, reinforcing the attitude up here that Clemens is not a 'winner.' Clemens countered that he didn't ask out of the game, he only said that the blister would keep him from throwing the curve effectively; since his curve wasn't all that effective in that game anyway, Clemens said that he told the coach that it probably wouldn't change the way he was pitching. This was topic 1 on sports talk radio for at least a week. Red Sox fans up here never cease to amaze me. Given that I moved here from Chicago, it is particularly notable to me how the different fan bases handle the long history of losses. (I was a White Sox fan in Chicago.) I think that the Cub fan's attitude is probably the most healthy; "we really stink, we know we really stink, and we'll always really stink, so we might as well order another beer and enjoy it."
