You're right. There are two images on the old site and four on the new one. The (mostly useless, IMHO) navigation bar on the bottom of the old site is only one graphic that uses an image map. When I glanced at it last night, I mistakenly thought it was a group of images.

Adding two reusable graphics to a page does not make the site "graphically heavy" as some would have it. Since it's gone for now, I can't double check, but the graphics on the new site are these: The SI logo bar at the top; The Go2Net logo at the top; The "Quotes" button at the top. Table columns are sized for older browsers using a "transparent.gif" file. That's four small graphics on a message page.

I don't deny that the pages are bigger. The speed problems with the site for the past few days suggest that they might be having some trouble with that and with things like pumping out user options for things like the dreaded message box, but graphics aren't the problem. The superb (although slightly messed up from changes) design of the new site makes fine use of limited graphics to create a very attractive page.

Im sorry Cheeky, I have to abandon you here.

I personally love the new SI. The subjectmarks are much cleaner and easier to view at a glance without scrolling down 3 full pages of bookmarks as are the full lists of messages on a thread.

The bottom line. The content is the same. Same posters. Same threads.

I like it. I like it. I like it.

Cheers
Carole
