ATI announces RAGE FURY PRO(TM), best all-round performance graphics and video card for the mainstream market

- The entertainment champion for the mainstream offers it all -
- 32 bpp true color gaming, 32MB graphics memory, hardware DVD, video
capture, TV out and optional flat panel support

TORONTO, Aug. 5 /CNW/ - ATI Technologies Inc. (TSE:ATY,NASDAQ:ATYT) today
announced the 32MB RAGE FURY PRO(TM), representing a new era for video cards.
It offers the best overall performance for all of today's popular games and
applications. The RAGE FURY PRO offers performance up to 50 per cent faster in
3D Winbench performance and up to 40 per cent faster frame rates in Quake III
at 1,024 x 768 in 32-bit than the previous RAGE FURY. The RAGE FURY PRO
enables 3D gaming, video applications, video capture, video out and optional
flat panel support.
The RAGE FURY PRO answers the growing demand by PC enthusiasts and gamers
for a video add-in card that handles the most complex games with leading
performance but does much more, including video-in. The RAGE FURY PRO allows
the capture and editing of home videos, videoconferencing and the ability to
set up web cams. Additional benefits of the video-in port include hooking up a
video game console to the PC monitor and therefore freeing up the family TV.
Video-in will become a standard feature with next generation PCs.
''There is a new class of graphics card buyer emerging, a buyer who wants
more than acceleration that handles the biggest and best games,'' said Alan
McCann, director of board marketing, ATI. ''The RAGE FURY PRO is ideal for
this market, offering best balance in price, performance and features in the
market today, delivering strong 3D performance and a multitude of features.''
The RAGE FURY PRO is the perfect upgrade for end users looking to
increase the power and features of their older systems. For system builders
the RAGE FURY PRO is the ideal accelerator for everything from mainstream
systems to performance PCs. With its multitude of features and performance
the RAGE FURY PRO allows system builders to cost-effectively differentiate
their systems from their competitors.
The RAGE FURY PRO's 32MB of memory can handle even the most texture-laden
games and its 32-bit true color capability is ideal for performance gaming and
high end 3D and video applications. Through optimizations, the RAGE FURY PRO
ensures that 32-bit col or acceleration is achieved with minimal performance
degradation, providing true color visual quality with a performance level
equal to that of a card that supports only 16-bit color.
Ready for the next generation of AGP 4X systems, the RAGE FURY PRO
provides full AGP 4X support, permitting the full benefit of the new AGP 4X
specification. This further enhances the top of the line performance of the
RAGE FURY PRO for 3D games. Due to ATI's innovative design, the new graphics
accelerators will be backward compatible to support AGP 2X.
The RAGE FURY PRO offers hardware DVD. With the industry's only
integrated iDCT and Motion Compensation, DVD decode is accomplished with an
absolute minimum of CPU usage. Also, 4-tap video scalers enable DVD playback
at near perfect visual quality. RAGE FURY PRO is the ideal solution for
running interactive DVD applications and watching DVD movies. New features of
the RAGE FURY PRO include support for flat panel monitors with integrated
TMDS; an eight million triangle/sec set up engine, for dramatically improved
performance; anisotropic filtering, for improved image quality such as text
blocks at ''Star Wars'' angles; a 300MHZ DAC for higher display resolutions;
and supports Microsoft's Direct X texture compression allowing for faster,
more detailed gameplay.
3D game play will be enhanced through the acceleration of OpenGL, as well
as DirectX 6 and full support for the upcoming DirectX 7. The result is full
acceleration and top speeds for intense DX and OpenGL games.
''ATI has a competitive product that pushes the limits of visual quality
and 3D technology,'' said Mark Rein, vice president of epic games. ''I am very
excited that they have implemented DirectX Texture decompression, as it will
bring out the ultimate visual experience of Unreal Tournament using ultra-high
resolution textures.''

Price and availability
The RAGE FURY PRO will be available in Q4 and offered at a competitive
mainstream price. Multiple models of the RAGE FURY PRO will be offered for the
OEM and system integrator market. Certain models will include support for flat
panel monitors or support for 16 MB of memory.
