... and Altera and Xilinx maintain that huge FPGAs combined with IP cores are allowing them to take market share from the ASIC camp. Bottom line is IP and who gets it to market first. I speak from a bias though... I sell Xilinx for my day job.

However, one of my larger customers recently stated, "with FPGAs this size (Xilinx-Virtex), why use ASICs?"

Several new paradigms will surely emerge... Meanwhile, with advancing HDLs and silicon the FPGA is thriving. Look for continued new highs from Xilinx and their FPGAs...

10 years from now, the giant comet will destroy earth so I guess
it won't matter much. <g> Speculating on what will be 10 years
from now is crazy, throwing your money in the fireplace is just
as good.....

Xilinx and Altera want to penetrate the ASIC market and LSI is a
big ASIC company, of course LSI is worried big time...
