I'd agree with that. I used to use a blank page or a local file when I had a dial-up connection. Now that I have a broadband connection, I set it to something or another (speed.snap.com is my current one), but rarely look at a portal page. I close down my machine with IE windows open. Those same windows open to the same pages when the machine is restarted, so I go directly to things like SI and a few others without ever passing a portal.

I have yet to see a portal page that's of any more than passing interest, and have never used the things for navigation.

(I think it's funny AOL got 1.3%)
Agree with Rtev. I go directly to SI, rarely go to my home page (go2net.)

I use a blank page because I always keep 4 or 5 windows open at the same time (IE4.0) so if I auto loaded a page, I'd immediately have to change it anyway.

But, when I open my first window, I always load the Go2Net homepage because I prefer their watchlist; when this window is not active, it is easy to find on the taskbar because "Go2Net" is always visible and I can activate and refresh to quickly update the list. In fact, many times I have two windows set to Go2Net, because when I do a search, I usually start with Metacrawler and by keeping a second window, it is always handy. So I guess the Go2Net homepage is sticky for me in this regard.

I am unable to have my opening page as go2net, but have it set up as a favorite. Upon starting up, I immediately leave my ISPs mandatory home page and go to my go2net page where I peruse the news and the listings of the hottest SI threads, and check out some of the links. Then I launch SI from the home page, as well as minicrawler which I keep open on my desktop all day. This way anytime I want to search, metacrawler is right there without having to keep the home page open. Minicrawler launches a new window when you use it.
Why do I make sure I go to my go2net home page several times each day? Why to add to the number of hits go2net gets of course. If we never use our own company's page, we are not helping our Media Metrix ranking OR our stock!
