G'day all - Ken, maybe there is some different rules between TSE and NYSE. As far as the holders on NYSE are concerned, most of the people own the stock in street name [via their brokers,] so my guess [I could be wrong] is there is not a concern even to buy the stock the day before the actual stock dividend. A more important thing is to make sure none of the outstanding orders, such as GTC buy and stop loss etc, left in the account queue!

best, Bosco

Ken - not sure why the different split dates between Toronto and NY.
As for Canada, what the statement means is that the last day to buy or hold Nortel and receive the dividend is August 12th. Anyone buying NT after that date will be buying at NT's new listed price which will be reduced by half to about $67 Cdn.

The effect of this one-for-one stock dividend will be substantially the same as a two-for-one common share split.

CONGRATS YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you see it coming? What a way to start the day!
