XACCT And Intasys Form Strategic Alliance To Bring Usage-Based IP Billing To Telecommunications Industry
SANTA CLARA, Calif. and TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 5, 1999--(NASDAQ:INTA - news) Companies Partner to Combine Cutting-Edge IP Metering and Mediation System with IP Customer Care and Billing System
XACCT Technologies, Inc., the developer of the XACCTusage(tm) metering and mediation solution for IP networks, and Intasys Corporation (NASDAQ: INTA - news), the developer of JBill, a state-of-the-art billing and customer care system for the convergent telecommunications industry, today announced that they have entered into a strategic alliance. Under the terms of the agreement, XACCT and Intasys will jointly integrate XACCTusage with JBill solution to provide comprehensive, multi-service Customer Care and Billing (CCB) solutions.
As value-added services such as IP fax, IP telephony, and streaming multimedia emerge on the Internet, the traditional basic flat-rate billing model is becoming obsolete. Network Service Providers (NSPs) are realizing that they must bill for such services based on a variety of parameters beyond simply ''time-on-line.'' The integration of XACCTusage and JBill will enable NSPs to create accurate, usage-based bills based on a wide range of parameters.
''This joint offering of two leading edge products will provide any IP-based telecommunications company the solution necessary to successfully compete with traditional telecommunications companies.'', stated Philip Davis, President of Intasys.
''Together, JBill and XACCTusage create a solution that's greater than the sum of their parts,'' said Anil Uberoi, vice president of marketing at XACCT. ''JBill integrates seamlessly with XACCT technology, offering service providers unprecedented data collection, billing functionality, and, ultimately, more control over their business.'' Comprehensive Data for Billing
XACCT's flagship product, XACCTusage, provides a single point of interface between the IP network infrastructure and the CCB application for usage data collection as well as automated service provisioning. This multi-source, multi-layer mediation solution captures comprehensive and accurate usage data from a multitude of network elements such as routers, switches, firewalls, and application servers and refines it into XACCT Detail Records, or XDRs(tm), that are similar to the Call Detail Records (CDRs) generated by telephone switches (exchanges). Service providers can use XDRs to generate flexible, innovative pricing models and usage-based bills. By leveraging the end-to-end, automated User Account Provisioning capabilities of XACCTusage, service providers can implement self-care or self-registration programs and thus lower call-center costs. Automated provisioning also lets service providers benefit from instant service activation and revenue capture.
Intasys and XACCT will leverage each other's experience to provide an end-to-end subscriber management solution for telecommunications companies seeking to offer usage-sensitive pricing for Internet-based services. Using XACCT's mediation software and Intasys' highly configurable rating engine, our clients will have the ability to rate IP-based usage on factors like bandwidth, transaction time and quality-of-service. Because the Intasys JBill product represents a fully convergent rating and billing engine, our clients will be able to bundle these new IP-based services, such as messaging and video-conferencing, with more traditional telecommunications services, including wireless and traditional long-distance.
