I have no idea. I'd guess that it's proprietary but can easily be made to support any protocol. Initially SGI would try to hold the available market with an optimized proprietary protocol for high speed I/O to ensure that they got adequate payback for the risk, but if the product develops notoriety, propriety will evaporate. I state the obvious.

The minimal product: 4 channels of OC-12 each. Everybody can ride for free. Notice that this is a minimal application with respect to last November's demonstration? I knew they had stability problems at these throughputs and you have to gear down on the junk pipes we got out there now. It is often the case that when a great breakthrough is made quite a lot of further development which could be called elaborate tweaking, must be done in order to take the principle to its promise. This isn't the case with lesser developments. Fast up, and fast down. I usually talk five minutes before I run. I state the obvious.

It's not that odd since they are private and could care less about useless visibility. It would be useless since they have no business dealings with the public. Notice that other recent releases don't appear on the site either.
