hi j_z, you asked "Do you think it was right for HCI and other gun control groups capitalize on the Littleton tragedy by pushing congress for more restriction on legitimate gun owners, during that same mourning period?"

obviously, these groups were trying to capture the moment. If one is for them, it is "strike the iron while it is hot;" but if one is against them, it is "kick the dog while it is down."

Personally, I am against any group with extreme postures, because I truly believe in practical reasons and "majority rule, minority right" and all those ideals. Having said that, one cannot deny NRA is one of the most powerful lobbies inside the beltway.

To a degree, I will grant that an NHL game is not the same as a convention, financially. I guess individual members can decide if their conscience is clear. If someone tells me outright that the rank n file has decided that they were unwilling to eat their losses [for the sake of showing the nation that they understood the weightiness of the tragedy,] then I ve nothing more to say. I am just concerned that it was a top-down decision.

Finally, I must confess that I am not particularly political and I just happened to stumble on the subject because I felt for the tragedy in Atlanta. So probably this is my last post on the subject [which is offtopic anyway <sg>.] My parting thought is this: OOH, like it or not, I am wary of the power NRA wields. OTOH, I think it is a mistake to think NRA is a monster, because NRA is a collection of individuals, some genuine and some [in power] not. It is up to the moderates to work out the issues with the moderates of the opposing camps. And definitely there is nothing good coming out if the extremists [of the opposing camps] are allowed to run the show

best, Bosco
