Ken, stop deluding yourself

"If UMC performs as I think they will,
a repeat of the stock run in 95 is quite reasonable."

ALSC owns 15% of UMC, and only 15% of their success. Even if UMC meets with your wildest expectations, ALSC will only benefit a few more bucks. Remember, ALSC itself will undoubtably continue to be a mismanaged POS during a firming demand (with shortages'99), not explosive demand market(with capacity building'95).

I think if we took a poll on this threads asking: (choose only one)

1. are you investing in ALSC as a Semi play in a recovering market?

2. are you investing in ALSC as a growing portfolio/bookvalue play?

- the 6 Little Indian V.P.'s would be embarressed by the results.

(sun-tzu, if you voted 1., then your view is clearly stuck in the past!)

consider, UMC is a semi company, they are not like software companies;
semi's are much more likely to dissapoint you with little profit to show for it.
