TD,

This is why this conversation becomes difficult. It is hard to discuss
why one person prefers one religious/spiritual philosophy over another without appearing as if he is disparaging the other person's religion. That is not even remotely my intention.

Mark

hi truedog,
You said you didn't know the reason for the sacrifices of animals in the OT. It was to cover sin. Paul said that the shed blood of animals covered sins for one year for the person bringing the sacrifice. That covered the persons whole household too. Paul went on to say that the animal sacrifices were an imperfect way to cover sins, because they were covered for one year only. Jesus Christ through His shed blood made a covering for sins for all time. He is the perfect sacrifice in the perfect covenant. Those that accept His sacrifice are covered for eternity.

You are right that no one has greater access to Jesus than you do when you believe Jesus is your Savior. I disliked the Catholic Church which I was raised in after learning what the Bible really says. The catholic Priests spoke Latin in mass and made it all sound so mystical and beyond me. I was shocked at how personal the Bible is. Written for each one of us.
The believer CAN forgive anothers sins since we are acting in the same capacity on earth as Jesus. He spoke and sins were forgiven. So can we. He also said whoever you forgive sins I will forgive also, and whoever you do not forgive sins I do not. But then it also says if we do not forgive, neither are we forgiven. So I would be leery of holding anyones sins against them. As difficult as that is sometimes!!!

cya,
