Dudley, you sound like a nice person, but you need to wake up and smell the cordite.

Your tales of people so panic stricken or immobilized with fear that they are incapable of rational thought just don't strike a chord with me. I have made a career and a life out of making hard decisions quickly and correctly, so it's hard for me to identify with your "Chicken Littles" and their anxiety attacks.

Violence deserves violence in return. Not out of vengeance or some misguided sense of righteousness, but because that is often the only way to confront violence and still walk away from it unharmed or at least alive.

I'm no badass, but in my lifetime I have killed. Ostensibly because it was my duty and I was killing an enemy of my country, but the true reason I killed was because, had I not, the person(s) I killed would have killed me.

As for your contention that reacting to violence with violence may result in a murder rap, I don't think so. Self defense is a legitimate reason for employing deadly force. And if not, "I'd rather be tried by twelve than buried by six".
