Blankmind, Just like that stated (Seattle times), AOL is synonomous with the internet. The only smart way for MSFT make serious inroads is to research a name for the net access. Call it something like a Window to the internet. That is, the name for the service should translate to this type of meaning.
One thing i have noticed is that on TV sporting events make mention of "keywords" for AOL. I think for CBS Sportsline it is just "sportsline". That is just a simple example. MSN internet access has to approach advertising in the same manner as AOL.
I still believe the major hurdle is simply the name of the service----"america online" sounds a lot better than "msn internet access". Maybe the advertising (along with "keyword" advertising) may make a dent.
Personally, i still can't believe people are stuck on AOL---unwilling to part. I found it to be the worst service i have tried. I guess habits have been formed and it is MSFT job to make sure other newcomers to the net don't follow the same route. AOL has been able to put a gate around its service---that is what is saving it along with a popular brand name.
