PMS? Boy I can vouch for that. LOL!! However, even though I have had days where I wanted to rip somebody's face off, I didn't do it!

So, you're saying the rat bastard was a nutcase. Well that's just so sad..........boo hoo. It doesn't matter what the hell was the matter with him. Schizo, bipolar, whacked out, jerked up/off....whatever!
He killed 12 people and these kinds of things are happening more often. What is going on here?????? How can we stop it? Gun control/no gun control/more laws/less laws/censorship/no censorship/spank your kids/don't spank your kids/let the teachers spank your kids/prayer/no prayer/prayer in schools/no prayer in schools. Mother of God, we should all be praying that none of us ever have to face what happened at Columbine or Atlanta!

Peace be with all of you, Harper

"PMS" and bipolar disorder the same thing? Bipolar Affective Disorder tends to be a life long mood disorder, in which the moderate to severe cases are much more disabling than "PMS". In severe cases of Bipolar Disorder, the patients can experience delusions and hallucinations, and the patient can be disabled, even require hospitalization, for weeks or even months. Overall, Bipolar Disorder is a much more serious illness than "PMS", which is controversial to even call an illness.

Although the etiologies of both are not fully understood and probably multifactorial, these afflictions almost certainly have different etiologies. What is common between the two, is that both have a biological component to their etiologies, and serotonin is probably involved in both. But much more is involved.

Certainly, they are symptoms of physical problems, most often associated
with chemical imbalances. Why don't you ask me if I think pms is real,
they are about the same thing, don't you think?

First, I'll answer your question. IMO mental illnesses like bipolar disorder are symptoms of chemical imbalances just as you said. Yes, PMS is also a symptom of chemical imbalances also. But I don't think it's right to compare PMS to mental illness. PMS is a short term condition which seldom leads to problems like suicide.

Now to the reasons I asked your opinion. First, if mental illnesses are caused by chemical imbalances what is the matter with trying to correct this with some kind of medication? You seem to be opposed to this.

Second, if mental illnesses are real and biological in origin, does that mean you disagree with at least some of the books described in the link you posted?
