G'morning, Mary - you [rhetorically?] asked, "What is there to decide? "

It was a long story. There was quite a lively discussion here on this very forum. Indeed, you are right in saying "No one in an offical capacity is accusing Dr Lee of spying. There is only innuendo." However, people do form opinion, consciously or not. So, I offer this piece for those who are sincerely interested in forming some sort of an informed opinion, albeit still very incomplete picture - and a very good chance for a long time to come, if ever at all.

best, Bosco

Mary-

<<The only question that should be open, is how do we keep people with very little integrity and a lot of political ambition, like Mr. Richardson, away from positions of responsibility supervising people with a lot of integrity, like Dr. Lee >>

May I ask how do you know about Lee's integrity? Or his loyalties, for that matter? Your statement in another post that a Taiwanese would be unlikely to spy for the PRC is, from a security point of view, utterly worthless: nothing can be taken for granted in such matters. You seem to be given to making definitive pronouncements on subjects about which you have no specific knowledge.

I am going to go out on a limb here, and assume that you have no personal knowledge of Lee's integrity and/or loyalties (if you do, I should think you would be unwise to post here). That does not stop you from making assumptions on the matter convenient to your point of view, or from snidely commenting on Richardson's motives and integrity. Note I am not saying you are right or wrong- it's just that without more information than I assume you have, you are making judgements without the requisite knowledge. BTW, are your comments about Richardson based on knowledge of his past??

Larry

P.S. <<Anyone else moving classified files from secured computers to computers less secure will be subject to the same criminal proceedings that Dr. Lee is facing. >>

It wasn't clear to me whether or not this came from you, or from 60 Minutes. But in any case it's not true. Not all such infractions would be prosecuted criminally. Responsible authority has to make a judgement call. For example, someone might be disciplined- or even have their access to secret information revoked for improper handling of the information- but not be the subject of criminal proceedings. But in any case, it is true that mishandling classified information is something that security personnel would take seriously no matter what the race or ethnicity of the perpetrator.
