These NYT ads are very small, at the bottom of one page, all bunched together, probably not all that expensive.

Don't kid yourself Howard. The newspapers make their money by their advertising fees. In fact, they could GIVE the paper away for free for what they make on advertising, the primary source of revenue for the papers. They also charge businesses a much higher rate than an individual who is placing an ad. And I would suspect that the NY Times would command quite a hefty fee. However, there are several smaller papers in the NY City area that they could advertise in. This would be more business savvy given that this is only being promoted as a local service for now. The need to pay the NY Times fee wouldn't be necessary to attract locals.
