AJ - Sun's new chip is a microprocessor core that has been specifically designed to work with media applications better than older architectures including intel's. You still need a graphics chip ala Neomagic.

So it appears to me that Sun's new chip is potentially complimentary to Neo and other graphic chip company's offerings.

For a company's graphic's chip to be compatible, however, it would have to be specifically modified to work with Sun's new processor architecture.

Some SUNW CPU history from the INTC thread:

Sun has a history of being long on talk short on substance. Announcing a dream isn't the same as living it. Perhaps if SUNW gets real serious they will make a play for NMGC??
