I don't know. I am a lawyer, although I was never in criminal law, and I think some lawyers buy into their positions so determinedly that they lose sight of the other side. They aren't bad people, they are merely bad lawyers.

Your situation does sound like a speed trap. It is always hard to avoid those- especially when the posted signs are as tricky as you say they were.

I would write a very nasty letter to the mayor of that town (and copy the newspaper). Tell them you will never spend a dime in their city again and that you will also encourage all your friends, business associates, and relatives, to do likewise. Perhaps copy your local newspaper as well- your story is of human interest, so your letter might very well be printed. It is always nasty to be taken advantage of by public employees- whose salaries we all pay.

Are you always as judgmental and as totally wrong about people you don't know?

Those here who know me know that I have never worked a day in prosecution, but have been a defense lawyer all my career.

But facts, of course, don't matter to you, nor would you bother taking the time and trouble to find out before making false assumptions.
