Jock,

As a designer embedding an FPGA on an ASIC buys me squat. The whole point of an FPGA is to shorten the development time of a product. The high NRE's and Long time to production are ASIC's downfalls. Embedding an FPGA in the ASIC does nothing to help you there.

LSI is responding to the real threat that FPGA's will eventually overrun the ASIC market. They response is to join in hoping to maintain there business.
