First, the press releases you're describing are backward looking and don't cover the forward looking period that was being discussed.

Second, if you believe that an earnings press release is going to conclusively prove or disprove an oil pricing conspiracy, I won't come to you looking for investment insights.

Third, the integrated oil companies got away completely unpunished 2 or 3 decades ago. That's a powerful incentive to try it again.

FWIW,
Ian.

the people running big 'erhl out in CA are incompetent, plain and simple. They have one refinery blow up as soon as another comes on line. Many deaths too. Not a pretty sight and I really love paying $1.79 per gallon for unleaded with additives that is supposed to clean the air but poisons our lakes while the rest of the country pays much less.

I believe the Saudi's can pump crude for $2 a gallon. I have been told by someone in the oil industry that exploration is dying as a US profession as there is so much oil for so cheap that it just doesn't pay to look much in the US anymore. Sooner or later, market forces will rule and the price will drop.
