Cheryl,

Those of us who have read this thread for many months owe you a great debt of gratitude. You were the one courageous enough to start this thread in the first place, and you have continued to be the lightning rod for the over-heated discussion we have thrown not only "in your general direction" but more often at you personally.

I didn't realize until I read your recent posts that you had given so much of yourself and your own funds to help raise public awareness for Y2K.

And your post about what you are doing to help others is a model for us all:

>>I'm already actively involved with the community. Food banks. Volunteering at a 2-county Y2K business and preparedeness store-front site. Sharing information with neighbors. Neighbor (who's a nurse and had been an exec with a CA HMO) is now stockpiling meds. Also food. And they just bought and installed a generator. Didn't see the need until I got up here. All of my immediate neighbors now have (or have ordered) generators. And have 6-12 months worth of food. We know who's not doing anything (some of those "elderly" you refer to) - in our case, we're planning on having enough to help them out. Even the 76-yr old widow whom none of us like.<<

Through this thread that you have established, we have learned that others have much to offer...Ken with his wealth of interesting links, Ron with his unique vantage-point in D.C., Cheeky with his energetic skepticism, bearcub with his wealth of years and experience....I could go on and on. But you've brought us together in this sometimes heated incubator of discussion, and I for one am extremely grateful to you for it.

From this thread, I have learned practical information that I would never have gleaned in any other way, and I look forward to continuing to learn more and more...here I was thinking I was prepared and then Lorraine tells me I need a microscope! "Oh shucks," I say, "here I go off to ebay again!!!"

Seriously, to Cheryl and one and all, thanks for the information you make possible for us to share.
