OUT Magazine to relaunch Out.com
NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)---August 4--Out Publishing, Inc. announced today the relaunch of its popular Out.com website in partnership with gfn.com, the Gay Financial Network.
Henry E. Scott, president and editorial director of OUT, the world's largest circulation gay and lesbian magazine, said Out.com would be the single best source on the World Wide Web for information about lesbian and gay people, issues, institutions, and life.

The full site will launch in early October. Scott said it would include links to thousands of other gay and lesbian sites, including those of smaller magazines such as The Advocate and Genre, and to niche sites such as PlanetOut.com, Gay.com, and Gaygate.com.

"We intend Out.com to be an all-inclusive site," Scott said. "It will be the only place lesbians and gay men need to find gay information on the Web."

Scott is particularly proud of Out.com's association with the Gay Financial Network (gfn.com). "In a remarkably short time, Walter Schubert and Jeffrey Newman have created one of the best financial services sites on the Web," Scott said. "It's well-organized and well-edited and is one of the few sites around that offers real value to its users."

Out Publishing, Inc. and gfn.com, founded by Schubert, will cement their alliance with a swap of equity in the two companies. He also said Out.com has hired Newman, president and COO of gfn.com, to also serve as president and CEO of Out.com. Alex Karamanoglou, gfn.com's chief technology officer, will design, build, and maintain the site.

"Jeffrey's extensive editorial and Internet experience makes him crucial to the success of Out.com," Scott said. "And in Alex we have an amazing technical wizard."

Newman has more than 12 years of editorial and new media experience. Prior to gfn.com, Newman served as senior editor at TheStreet.com and ABCNews.com. In the early-90s, Newman helped develop and launch TuTTi, a national CD/magazine product. He served for four years as managing editor of New Miami magazine and currently holds consulting editorial positions at several national publications. His work is also featured in three dozen local papers around the country. Karamanoglou comes to gfn.com with seven years of experience in the IT industry. He has provided IT guidance to several major companies, including the Newman Group, Symbiosis, SunTrust Bank, and Group Long Distance. Newman and Karamanoglou have worked together for more than eight years.

While the full site won't launch until October, Scott said Web users are invited to visit www.out.com starting August 16 to register for a contest whose prizes include a vacation for two to London and a vacation for two to New York City.

Out.com was first launched four years ago and focused on providing content from Out magazine. The company closed the site two and a half years ago with the intention of reopening it when a clearer Internet business model emerged.

The new site, Scott said, will serve as a niche portal for lesbians and gay men, minimizing any effort to provide magazine content on the Web.

Out Publishing, Inc. publishes OUT and HIV PLUS, the largest circulation consumer journal devoted to the prevention and treatment of HIV and AIDS. OUT, a monthly launched in 1992, is the largest circulation gay and lesbian magazine in the world, with an audited circulation 55 percent larger than that of its nearest competitor and a readership of nearly half a million people.

Launched in 1998, gfn.com is the leading online resource devoted to the financial needs of the gay and lesbian community. Founded by Walter B. Schubert Jr., a third-generation member and the first openly gay member of the New York Stock Exchange, the free site provides daily and weekly business and financial news and information, as well as a variety of specially tailored financial and investment services.
