<What the heck does one company gain with two completely different, practically equally fast x86 processors? > Two extremely good design teams and a whole bunch of IP for bargain basement prices. My Intel contacts tell me that several Cyrix folks have gone to Intel Austin and several others are interviewing at other Intel locations. This would give VIA a chance to consolidate two design teams and regain the momentum. Without 2 design teams to work with, VIA would have been hard pressed to build a sustainable low-end business.
