Andrew, FWIW I think internet access charges will also rapidly decrease as competition heats up. All the $700 PC's with 3 years free internet access is just the beginning IMO. I have been able to get unlimited access to the internet for $10.95 for over a year through an ISP based in Chicago...Mega something. I believe phone, cable TV, and internet access will soon all be provided through the big Telecoms, thus significantly increasing efficiency and allowing prices to fall considerably while maintaining margins. The successful players will create new revenues via increasingly growing subscriber bases and other avenues.

regards,

sf

msft helps to validate idtc's business model of attracting internet users via pre-paid internet cards, which they can convert to regular accounts. while i would bet both have significantly less costs involved in attracting new users than such tactics as sending out a disk to millions of homes.

unfortunately we need to wait until the cc to discover how well the model is working, although h60 gave us a glimpse into the success when he said they were attracting 500 new users a day.
