Gauquelin, Michel
or
Gauquelin, Francoise (nee Schneider)

French statisticians and pioneers in the scientific investigation of astrology. Michel Gauquelin holds a Ph. D. in psychology and statistics from the Sorbonne; Francoise Gauquelin holds a degree in statistics from the University of Paris. The Gauquelins have devoted their life together to the reexamination of astrological concepts in the light of modern scientific knowledge and methodology.
Gauquelin found that earlier statistical work in astrology that seemed to confirm the validity of the signs, houses, and aspects was unsound due to inadequate size of samples and lack of proper controls. Between 1949 and the present, the Gauquelins have collected the birth data of many thousands of people from registrars all over Europe, and have studied the the positions of of planets at their in relation to the later choice of profession and personality traits.

They found for certain groups of successful professionals -that is, sports champions, scientists, and writers- the diurnal distribution of certain planets followed a consistent pattern that differed significantly from chance. For example, in the charts of 1,533 sports champions the planet Mars was found to be rising or culminating - that is, just past the HORIZON or MERIDIAN of the birthplace - with a frequency whose probability of occurring by chance was 1 in 1,000. Similarly there was a marked tendency for eminent scientists to have a rising or culminating Saturn and for successful writers to have a rising or culminating Moon. In all these studies, the Gauquelins used the charts of ordinary professionals in the same field as controls. Their results with sports champions were replicated by a highly skeptical group of Belgian scientists, the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal, using a different sample of 535 French and Belgian athletes. Indeed, their results were so similar to the Gauquelins that the shocked scientists spent 4 years studying all possible objections and organizing numerous control experiments.

...and the response to the Japanese innovation of "Super-Star Breeding" is phenomenal as well. Would Elvis have been the same if he had had 3000 kids by 3000 screaming fans, all of whom owned robotic dogs???!! Now is a very interesting time to be alive (isn't that an old Chinese curse...LOL).
