"These "training" classes are the biggest farce in the investment world today. Pretty soon it'll be a college credit course."

TFF,
With all due respect to the quality of all your excellent post to SI, I cannot completely agree with you on this. In the context of a total beginner going to a place like this and in 6 weeks being able to trade, I do completely agree that it CANNOT HAPPEN. You will just be feeding the trading Gods with your money. I firmly believe one has to feel the pain before they will ever gain.
In the context of someone like myself that studied the markets and charts for ten years before I put in a dime. And then lost consistently for two years (in a bull market) while not being able to stick to my plan. And thru continually learning from my mistakes ,was finally able to make money on a very consistent basis for some time now. All of this using much longer time frames than daytrading or swing trading though always naturally gravitating to smaller and smaller time frames. And now after months and months of eating living and breathing this stuff for 40 to 60 hours a week in addition to a full time job. First paper trading with entry and exit points pre-decided to the teenie and then afterwards reviewed on the minute chart daily to determine fill probabilities. And then moving towards full time trading by taking periods of time off of work and going to a shortened work week and actually trading a real account with full size positions. And finally being at the juncture where like Eric, I will be quitting my day job (which is extremely high paying) which geometrically adds to the pressure. It is in this context that I find these services very valuable. It is for that final polishing, that final bit of extra security gained by having experienced traders around. This thread does the same for me. The expo in California also does this for me. it is not about the speakers and predators that are there. It is about the value that networking with others, in the same position as ourselves, brings to the table. The alternative was for me to go full time trading at home by myself. In the beginning, I think that trading alone may not be a good idea for many. I do know that for me, I am making the right decision. They are not just taking my money. Though i am sure they have taken from the unprepared. And who knows maybe I have already taken some of yours... :-)
