No, AOL can't do it because ADSL is not going to take AOL there, it's losing technology. And ATHM's cable knowhow is not easy for AOL to pick up. MSFT is already an ATT/ATHM ally. The fact is there is not a competitor, although a lot of inept ones.

I suggest you open your local computer magazine, there will be at least a dozen ISP's who provide DSL service for cheaper that you think. It's true that cable has more bandwidth than copper but DSL is point to point, cable is shared medium. The fact that there are so many DSL ISP's competing makes their service more reliable. I'm long COVD,NPNT and ATHM, I believe all of them will make it big but I am uncomfortable about ATHM being run by old ATT bureaucrats.
