Dan, I'm certainly no expert, but I thought I read recently that the latency issue has proven not to be nearly the problem originally thought. Sorry, I don't know where I read this, and I could be confusing the type of latency being discussed.

If I'm correct, they are focused on data rates - that can be important for servers. And are glossing over latency - important for productivity applications.

From the Dell white paper:

The DellTM product lines selected for initial adoption of Rambus technology will be largely driven by the availability of chip sets. Workstations and performance desktop computers are expected to be the first recipients of this new technology

It has been reported that Dell will have workstations out this fall using Rambus, not servers.
