It's also about real politik - a war over Taiwan would not be a push button war for the US like Kosovo - it would involve the loss of a great many lives far from home and also the dreaded prospect of nuclear war with dire consequences for the whole world. So when push come to shove would the American people support such a prospect?

And, it is important for America to try to maintain peace with China for reasons of trade. d

you just don't get it..I don't care if people agree or don't agree with me..that is not what I am looking for..
I am looking for people's original thoughts on how they see what is unfolding in the world..
If your intentions are to contribute to this thread.. why not try to
answer some of these questions?
Why does not the mainstream media start writing about the proposed
"surplus"..Unlike Z.H.,I think the problem is in budget deficit I don't think the problem is in the trade deficit-I wish I could find numbers to see for instance when Salton
makes the George foreman grill, how much does Salton make and how
much does China get..I think the ratio will be mindboggling..of course
I am generalizing from what I read about the Nike workers in Indonesia..
I think our budget deficit is a primary issue? Have you read anything
about that and without the fudging of social security things look
worse than ever in this booming economy?
What about the peace dividend of weapons? Has that been factored into
the coming budgets..It looks as if the government's policy toward
the global economy has done wonders to create enemies of countries
that before weren't hostile?
What do you think of the measures of Malaysia? Why is Malaysia benefiting while not going along with the US and the wall street types?
What is this business of US offering to buy back bonds at a premium?
Can you explain the logic behind that other than manipulating the bond market?
Why is the government have to borrow for the next census report?
Is there something unusual or unpredicted that we will have another census report
Why not start focussing in on all the smoke and mirrors instead of
parrotting the smoke and mirrors?
So many more questions.. ie healthcare, what happens when those welfare recipients are pushed out on the street..
wonder how many people will contract TB etc ..
Why has this country gotten so obsessed with gossip
Why do many working people who are counted in the employment roles need to go to private agencies to get food for themselves and children?
Why do so many americans..over 41 million .not have health coverage in this booming times?
What would the hourly wage be if the government figures cut off the top five percent and the bottom five percent?
etc
I think you left out something ultra important re yuan devaluation..
the world needs Japan to recover..if the yuan devalues..what in the world is going to happen to Japan then..
I might have answer re India..which is supposedly going to be the most populated country in the middle of the next century
There isn't the infrastructure yet for wall street and corporate america to play with..so money and US policy looks for countries that can help big business here rather than helping to develop a real
global market filled with consumers..
I think our government is being very shortsighted..English is so
prevalent in India..the software firms are using so many Indians..
India is probably changing more rapidly than China..there are so many spiritual Indians..who abide by values that are so sorely missing these days..
As for mainland china, from my readings, the intellects and the business type people fled..and left a huge population of farmers
...I have nothing against farmers but one of the major reasons that
made the US so great is because so many immigrants came here to escape oppression and for opportunity (although as my grandmother told me..
as soon as they became wealthy or comfortable..their ideals fell to the wayside)..even now..many who come are "not followers" but people
who want to build a better life for themselves and their family..
this isn't natural selection but a bias towards productive and innovative thinkers and entrepeneurs rather than the "meek"..who
keep with the status quo

I'm hearing the rumor around Denver, Gore & or DNC are running a short gold position,in part, because of the Green thing.

Has anyone else picked up on this?

Maybe FOX news could ask some questions if we all asked them?
