What I find so interesting is that there are distinctions drawn between "in here" and "out there." It strikes me, following Jaspers' logic, that science and mathematics may be just as much metaphor of "out there" as astrology and philosophy--although not as "strong" in that they have not undergone many level of abstraction and symbolization. Could one say that if life has evolved by adapting to the environment, then perhaps it has adapted by internalizing "out there"?
