Got another idea. Edit the lines out of Autoexec.bat, then turn the power off without shutting down Windows. That'll tell you if Windows is doing something at shutdown.

Here's another one: Is there any way to do a search of all the text files in a folder or a drive without opening them? That would make it easy to locate the piece of text you're looking for.

Is there any possibility this could be the result of something written into the BIOS?
