I just bought more, which doesn't mean a thing. However, I bought it after being contacted by MCI. The deal they offer had catches which made it less than a bargain for me. It required a monthly fee and a minimum usage. IMO, when the ANALysts analyze this, they will also see that the bottom has not fallen out of the long distance market, but that this is a smart marketing move by WCOM.

good investing --- fred

Yes, JM, I'll agree that this is a great buying opportunity.

I don't think there is anything fundamental that has driven the stock down -- if you go back through the thread, you'll see the references to the PaineWebber analyst's concern (before the earnings report) that there was a slowdown in voice volume/revenue (I can't believe that is responsible for all of this) and the old refrain that "investors are concerned that Bernie & Co. are considering a large wireless acquisition that will be dilutive." Well, Bernie has denied this (although I still believe there might be a major acquisition in our future that might cause a "pause" for the stock -- I think FON could be a nice fit).

As the current Fortune article says (I haven't seen it, just quoting from memory from this thread) in some article where it is listed as one of the top 10 stocks to own right now: "If these concerns drive the stock down around $80, back up the truck and load up because you won't see these prices for long." You better check these sources directly, but I think 6 months from now, WCOM at $77 will seem like a crazy bargain. JMO. Super long WCOM.

Yes - I believe it's a good time to buy. WCOM is a leader in carrying data - smallest residential voice carrier of the three. WCOM has focused on the business customer which is the most lucrative. The world is moving to data not voice. Bernie is a brilliant manager - he always acts in the best interests of his shareholders and knows that big is better in telecom - he is a very sharp acquirer. He's proven himself - there is no reason to believe he won't outperform in the future too. Eventually, the world will have several super carriers - I think WCOM will be one of them!
