Tom,

First of all, congratulations on that sort of a record. I'm assuming you are happy with the result. I didn't comment yesterday because I spent most of it puking my guts out after chemotherapy. <grin>

My 1998 numbers stunk (up 9% after taxes) and because I was setting my portfolio up completely differently than I had in the past. The transition was toward active stock selection in technology area vs. passive stock selection in the main line core holdings area that is mirrored by Dow type stocks.

1998 was a transition year for me to set up a good to great 1999. So far it is working. Despite this latest downdraft, I'm pretty sure I'm up over 30% after taxes YTD and 110% off the October lows. By most accounts that's fairly good. In my IRA where I have been most aggressive, I've turned over 25% of the portfolio selling MCD and BMY acquired in the 1990-1991 timeframe and rolling them over into more aggressive technology issues. That account has a gain of $1.65 for every dollar sold, an overall gain YTD of 50+%, includes a large portion of the GALT that I bought last October under $10 and where I started my VTSS position. I wish my other accounts were doing as well <grin>.

In any case it would be comparing apples and oranges.

These funds have had a hot hand.

Honestly, if in another year I can't beat this guy, I'm going to stop trying to pick individual stocks for the bulk of my assets and let this guy handle the money. I really like selecting stocks, but business is business and you don't drop 10-15% potential gain because of ego.

"GEEEZ I thought someone would at least comment on this! Here's another way to say it:

For every dollar of cost I sold last year, someone was kind enough to pay me $1.39.

Come on! Let's hear some ADABOYS!!!!"

Tom the problem is that we all know your the best (AIMer) and so those are the kind of results we expect.

OK ADABOY TOM. I hope I do that well! I'm learning thanks to this group!

Thanks
