Thanks for your comprehensive reply. Surprised you didn't mention Sandisk? Seems like they are always a number one thought for this type of memory?

Your list is curiously missing Japanese and Korean names. Looks like this market is more of a European play, as I suppose they've been quicker to adopt this type of product for their cell phone use.

Is it safe to conclude Phone.com is providing the underlying structure for Yahoo via their WAP forum? It looks like Sprint is basing their Yahoo offering on using WAP/Phone.com.

For what it's worth, PPHCM was up $19 today. They were up $17 the other day. All this has been a sharp rebound from a very short lived drop to $38 and closing today at $84 after hitting the 52 week high of 89 before backing off.

Clearly, this company is a very strong stock to watch in the Anywhere, Anytime category. Maybe we'll see them press on to new highs this week. I think it would also be very bullish if they got a split soon. Regards, Mark
Yahoo! Gets Even More Mobile August 11, 1999

Adding another chip to its bet on the future of the wireless market, Internet giant Yahoo! Inc. Wednesday rolled out wireless management service Yahoo! Mobile as part of its strategy to move beyond the PC.

Yahoo! Mobile allows users to choose and send content drawn from a personalized My Yahoo! page to a user's wireless devices, using preference control settings. Yahoo! Mobile also offers news, tutorials, downloads and information specifically related to the user's wireless devices.

Yahoo! Mobile initially will only support devices running on the Palm Computing or WinCE platform, with delivery to other wireless options expected to be introduced by fourth quarter.

Sprint Announces Wireless Internet Services August 11, 1999

Sprint Wednesday unveiled wireless Internet services for its Sprint PCS wireless telephone customers.

Dubbed Sprint PCS Wireless Web, the services will be available in late September and will have three parts, according to the company. The first is wireless Internet access using specific Sprint PCS phones. Users can either access the Internet directly with the phones or use them as wireless modems and connect them to devices such as handhelds and notebook computers.

The second service is a Web browser for Sprint PCS phones developed by Phone.com. The third element is wireless updates of personalized pages from Yahoo! This information will be transmitted via Sprint's PCS Short Messaging Service.

Palm Desktop Comes To Linux

Aug. 10, 1999--Applix has launched L.P.D., a Linux-based desktop for Palm handheld devices.

The application, which is released under the GPL public license, performs the same function as Windows desktop product; giving Linux users access to information stored on their Palm devices.

This first release of L.P.D. enables users to view and search for information in the address book, to do list, memo pad, date book and expense applications. Future releases of L.P.D. will include support for synchronizing data with Palm devices.

L.P.D. was developed using Applix SHELF, an open source visual development tool. Both L.P.D. and SHELF are freely downloadable, enabling developers to contribute to their further development.

Microsoft Will Ship Upgraded Windows CE Today

Less than a week after shipping its Windows NT Embedded 4.0 Server, Microsoft is scheduled to release to manufacturing on Friday an upgrade for Windows CE and Platform Builder for embedded applications.

The release of the embedded operating system, version 2.12, sends a clear signal to Microsoft's legion of developers that the pint-sized and modular software is not the forgotten stepchild of embedded-systems design.

France Telecom Trials Mobile E-Commerce

France Telecom has launched a mobile e-commerce service trial, letting customers purchase goods using a smart card and phone.

The company said the service would employ a Motorola StarTac-D handset with an integrated smart card reader. The collaboration of banks and vendors would effectively make the phone a universal payment device, it said.
